Member FAQ: Fitness Center Reopening Updates

Mercy Fitness Center is now open! We are committed to your health and will continue to follow all state, local, and medical facility guidelines and recommendations to keep our members and community safe.

We will gradually reopen fitness center facilities, amenities, and services as health and safety guidelines change. We will email updates to members and post them to our Facebook page and this page as they are finalized. Please check back for updates regularly, and welcome back!

City of Edmond Requires Face Coverings Inside Buildings

The City of Edmond voted Monday, August 24, to require face coverings inside all businesses in the city limits. As of August 26, Mercy Fitness Center members are required to wear a mask that covers the mouth and nose whenever:

  • + Entering or exiting the building
  • + Walking through the building
  • + Participating in an exercise that is not cardio (aerobic) in nature

Aquatics activities do not require a face covering. Members are asked to ensure social distancing of at least six feet when masks are removed for exempt activities. Members are also asked to follow the posted signage when they reach the area where they will be exercising.

Learn more about the City of Edmond Face Covering Ordinance at the city’s COVID update page. The ordinance will expire on October 12.

Pool and aquatics area procedures

All pools have been thoroughly drained, scrubbed, sanitized, and serviced during the closure and are ready for our members!

Our exercise pool, lap pool, and spa are open with the following capacity limits:

  • + Exercise pool capacity: 12
  • + Lap pool capacity: 4 (1 member per lane)
  • + Hot tub capacity: 6 (Maximum 15 minutes recommended)

Please call 405.896.9200 to reserve your time in the lap pool. Walk-ins are not guaranteed lap pool access. The exercise pool no longer requires reservations. Please limit your time in both the pool area and locker rooms to no more than 90 minutes to allow other members access to the pools and locker rooms. Large towels are available for member use. Hairdryers are now available in the locker rooms.

Swim lessons and aquatics group classes

Swim lessons and training in the pools will require that we not exceed the pool capacities listed above. Minors may be accompanied by one adult in the pool area during swim lessons.

Can I use my favorite cardio machine?

Yes! The Mercy Fitness Center fitness floor encompasses more than 50,000 square feet of space and plenty of machines to maintain a minimum of 6 feet of social distancing from other members while working out.

Remember to practice good member etiquette by being mindful of other members and wiping down each machine using the provided cleaning solution once you’ve finished your workout.

Group exercise guidelines

Group exercise classes (land and water) have resumed with temporary limited capacities and schedules. Aquatics classes will follow the capacity guidelines listed in the Aquatics tab above. All other group exercise classes will be subject to these maximum participant limits:

  • + Studio 1: 20 members
  • + Cycle Studio: 12 members
  • + Pick up a group exercise pass at the front desk within 30 minutes of class start time
  • + Remember to allow time for health screening at the main entrance

Members are asked to maintain a distance of 6-10 feet from others when exercising, walking through the fitness center, or in the locker rooms.

What is Mercy Fitness Center doing to ensure the cleanliness and safety of members?

The fitness center has been divided into “cleaning zones” that will be cleaned by dedicated staff members throughout the day while members are present. In addition, those zones and all high-touch areas will receive a thorough deep-cleaning at the end of every day. Mercy Fitness Center staff will continue to maintain compliance with all CDC, state and local government cleaning, health, and safety guidelines.

What can members do to help?

Please follow the following member etiquette guidelines to help keep our community healthy:

  • + Use the cleansing wipes and solution provided in the exercise areas to wipe down equipment before and after each use.
  • + Please bring towels and mats from home, as these will not be provided. (Large towels will be available June 15.)
  • + Please observe social distancing guidelines by keeping at least six feet of space between yourself and others.
  • + Please allow a few minutes when you arrive for temperature and symptom screening at the main clinic entrance.

What hours will the fitness center be open?

Our phased reopening will require limited hours of operation to allow for deep cleaning at the end of each weekday and on weekends:

Hours of Operation

  • Monday – Thursday: 5 a.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Friday: 5 a.m. – 7 p.m.
  • Saturday: 7 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Sunday: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Members will receive updated hours of operation via email, website, and Facebook announcements as hours change.

How do I bring my kids to the Kids’ Zone?

Kids’ Zone guidelines include:

  • + Maximum capacity: 15 children
  • + Staff members will be wearing masks for the protection of our staff, our members, and their children.
  • + Reservations are no longer needed.
  • + As always, no food or drink will be allowed in the Kids’ Zone.
  • + Please be considerate of other members and pick up your child(ren) promptly at your scheduled pick-up time.

What do members need to know about using the locker rooms?

Both locker rooms have been optimized for social distancing and are open, with limited capacity and services. We encourage members to come dressed for a workout to limit the number of people who need to access the locker rooms. Large towels and hairdryers are now available. There will be a limited number of lockers available for member use to reinforce a minimum of 6 feet of social distancing.

When can I schedule a massage?

Call today to schedule that long-awaited massage! Massage therapy services are operational, with masks recommended.

Will Sports Performance reopen when the fitness center reopens?

Mercy Sports Performance and Advanced Group Training classes begin July 1 with a temporarily limited schedule and member capacity. No reservations are needed.

The American College of Sports Medicine recommends that members spend no more than 10 minutes in a sauna or steam room. Please limit your time to 10 minutes or less to allow other members access to these amenities. Large towels are available for member use.

Can I use weight machines and free weights?

Yes! The Mercy Fitness Center fitness floor encompasses more than 50,000 square feet of space and plenty of equipment to maintain a minimum of 6 feet of social distancing from other members while working out. Mats and hand towels will not be available for member use, so please bring a mat and towel from home if you anticipate needing them for your workout.
